Mark Wilde

Mark Wilde (tenor) was born in Scotland and was a chorister at Dundee Cathedral before going on to study at the University of East Anglia and the Royal College of Music.

In 2000, he made his Glyndebourne debut as Ferrando in ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’ since when he has appeared in Stephen Pimlott’s highly acclaimed production of ‘The Coronation of Poppea’ at English National Opera, ‘Albert Herring’ at the Perth Festival, Donizetti’s ‘Il Campanello’ at the Buxton Festival and Handel’s ‘Arminio’ at the Royal College of Music.

Other operatic appearances include Jacquino in ‘Fidelio’ for Glyndebourne Touring Opera,  Jonathan in Handel’s ‘Saul’ for Opera North,  Don Ottavio in ‘Don Giovanni’ with Birmingham Opera Company, Frederic for English National Opera, the title role in the highly acclaimed ‘Candide’ at the City of Birmingham Opera, ‘Adelaide de Borgogna’ at the Edinburgh International Festival and the Madwoman in Britten’s ‘Curlew River’, including a performance at the 2004 BBC Proms.

Mark makes regular appearances on the concert platform both in the UK and abroad with orchestras and ensembles including the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music, the London Mozart Players, the City of London Sinfonia and The Sixteen. Recent concert performances include the ‘St John Passion’ at the Perth Festival , the ‘St Matthew Passion’ in Helsinki, ‘Messiah’ at Winchester Cathedral, Britten’s ‘War Requiem’ in Westminster, Ely, Norwich and Ypres Cathedrals and ‘The Dream of Gerontius’ in Japan with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

Mark has recorded Handel’s ‘Ode to St Cecila’s Day’ and ‘The Dettingham Te Deum’ for Naxos Records, Sullivan’s ‘The Golden Legend’ and ‘The Prodigal Son’ for Hyperion Records, and ‘Ancient Melodies’, a recital CD of songs for tenor and guitar on Docker Records. He is soon to record a CD of Britten’s Scottish Settings.
